7 октября 2006 года была убита Анна Политковская. Журналистка, чьи статьи из истекающей кровью за информационной стеной и колючей проволокой Чечни стали голосом правды — правды о том, что переживали жители этой республики, ставшие удобной и бесправной коллективной жертвой всемирной «борьбы с международным терроризмом».

Её интересовало то, что происходило с людьми после прихода российских военных в населённые пункты, после задержаний и обысков, в фильтрационных пунктах и отделах милиции. Она возвращалась к уже опубликованным историям, искала новых свидетелей, сопоставляла показания и следила за тем, что происходило с уголовными делами.

Russia urged to prosecute those who ordered Anna Politkovskaya’s murder

On the 20th anniversary of the murder of Novaya Gazeta journalist Anna Politkovskaya, representatives of 32 countries called on the Russian authorities to identify everyone involved in the crime and end pressure on independent media.

The statement was issued by the Media Freedom Coalition. It was signed by representatives of the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Canada, Ukraine, Australia, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Chile, Japan, Spain and other countries.

A rally by members of Norway’s Chechen diaspora was held outside the Norwegian parliament in Oslo on 4 October, calling for an investigation into the death of 14-year-old Maryam Mutsalkhanova, who died while in the care of the child welfare service Barnevernet.
