The International Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has expressed strong disapproval of the prison terms requested by the prosecutor for nine activists and journalists from Toplum TV, which range from 13 to 16 years. Gulnoza Said, CPJ program coordinator, emphasized that such harsh punishments demonstrate the Azerbaijani authorities' desire to respond to courageous reporting and sow a climate of fear.
Activist from Dagestan arrested in Moscow
The court in Moscow arrested for 10 days activist from Derbent Ulker Gashimova on the article about defiance of the demand of a representative of the authorities when crossing the state border. Earlier, she tried to fly abroad from the airport Sheremetyevo.
Ulker Hashimova supported Ukraine and the independence of the peoples of the Russian Federation. She tried to fly to Belgrade to apply for political asylum in the Netherlands. In Derbent, the girl’s mother’s residence was also searched.
