Armenia and the United States conduct joint military exercises

The joint Armenian-American exercises EAGLE PARTNER 2025 have begun in Armenia. They will last from August 12 to 20. The goal of the event is to prepare for participation in international peacekeeping operations.

The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of the Armenian military leadership, US Ambassador to Yerevan Christina Kvien, American diplomats and military personnel. The exercises involve peacekeepers from the Armenian Armed Forces, soldiers of the US ground forces in Europe and Africa, as well as fighters of the Kansas National Guard.

Earlier, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that there is a high probability of the country's withdrawal from the pro-Russian Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). According to him, this scenario is more likely than the resumption of Yerevan's participation in the bloc. Last year, Pashinyan reported that Armenia froze its participation in the CSTO, since the bloc creates threats to the country's security and its continued existence.

Billionaire and former Nagorno-Karabakh state minister Ruben Vardanyan, sentenced in Baku to 20 years in prison, rejected the legal force of the ruling and dropped his appeal. His family explained that this decision stemmed from the fact that, in their view, the trial was a "staged performance" rather than a proper trial: the hearings were held behind closed doors, without access to independent observers, and the prosecution's motions were ignored. The full text of the verdict was also not released.
