The Orenburg Regional Court has begun hearing the state prosecution's appeal in the 6-million-ruble bribe case involving former senator Rauf Arashukov. The prosecution is seeking to increase the fine for the former official, who was sentenced to life imprisonment, from 120 million to 420 million rubles.
Armenia is getting rid of Soviet names
In Yerevan, a decision has been made to rename Leningradyan (Leningradskaya) Street. City officials cited the former name's associations with the Soviet era.
From now on, the street will be named after the American philanthropist of Armenian descent, Kirk Kirkorian.
The decision was made by the Council of Elders, where 37 members voted in favor, two voted against, and 18 abstained.
Samvel Hakobyan, a representative of the Mother Armenia opposition faction, criticized the decision, calling it an attempt to create a false media narrative. He expressed confidence that, despite the renaming, Yerevan residents will continue to use the familiar name "Leningradyan."
