Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev missed the informal CIS summit in St. Petersburg due to a busy work schedule. Aliyev's administration also noted that his absence from the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council on December 21 was due to Azerbaijan not being a member of the organization.
Armenia demanded that the Russian Federation remove border guards
Armenian border troops should serve at Yerevan airport. Armenia sent an official letter to Moscow to stop the activities of its Russian colleagues. This was stated by Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan.
In addition, Grigoryan responded to the claims of Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov about participation or non-participation in the CSTO. “I would say that it is Russia that should clarify its position towards Armenia, and not vice versa,” he said. Earlier, Grigoryan welcomed the fact that Armenia reduced the Russian Federation’s share in arms purchases from 96% to 10%.
Armenia also suspended its membership in the CSTO, having refused to participate in all events and military exercises with the Russian Federation since last year.
