Azerbaijani opposition leader left with prison sentence

The Baku Court has completed consideration of the appeal of the activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan Zamin Salayev. The verdict was upheld.

Salaev appeared in court and denied the allegations. He called the criminal case fabricated for political reasons. On July 10, the prisoner resumed his hunger strike demanding his release.

Recall that Zamin Salaev was detained in February on charges of hooliganism with the use of weapons. He was sentenced to four years in prison. On June 1, on the 115th day of the hunger strike, he stopped the action after providing him with assurances that the Court of Appeal would objectively consider his complaint.

The US Embassy in Baku called on the authorities to release the activist and other political prisoners.
