More than 5 thousand Russians were denied residence permits in Georgia

According to the Ministry of Justice of Georgia, from February 2022 to November 2023, 15,506 citizens of the Russian Federation applied for a residence permit in the country.

The applications of 9,021 people were satisfied, 5,156 were rejected, the rest are under consideration. Most often, refusals are received by citizens of the Russian Federation who apply for a residence permit for work or for a short period.

Since September 1, 2014, 1,537 residence permits for investments have been issued to foreigners in Georgia. Since 2019, the investment amount or property value has increased to $300 thousand.

Previously, the Georgian opposition took the initiative to stop issuing residence permits for investments to Russian citizens until the end of 2024. According to them, since the beginning of 2022, Russians have bought up to 10 thousand apartments in Georgia, which is why their prices have increased, making it difficult for Georgians themselves to buy and rent living space.
