Lawmakers from the ruling and opposition parties clashed in the Armenian parliament

A scuffle broke out in the National Assembly of Armenia on October 6 between MPs from the ruling "Civil Contract" party and the opposition "Strong Armenia" bloc.

The incident began during a speech by "Strong Armenia" MP Edgar Ghazaryan. He was discussing the 250,000-dram bonuses awarded to MPs and claimed that the session's presiding officer, Ruben Rubinyan, had allowed the misappropriation of state funds.

"Rubinyan allowed the misappropriation of state funds. I urge you not to spend that 250,000—do not spend the bonus money. We will recover every last penny of that money from you; we will not allow those who brought misfortune to this country and its people..." the opposition MP declared.

Rubinyan demanded that he stick to the agenda and cut off Ghazaryan's microphone. Despite this, the MP continued speaking from the podium, sparking a verbal altercation between representatives of the ruling party and the opposition.

Members from both sides became involved in the conflict. After some shoving, Rubinyan called for a recess, and security personnel entered the chamber.

When the session resumed, a new conflict arose during a speech by "Civil Contract" MP Taron Chakhoyan. While discussing the situation surrounding the Armenian Apostolic Church, he referred to the Catholicos of All Armenians, Karekin II, by his secular name—Ktrich Nersisyan.
In response, opposition MPs began banging on their desks and shouting from their seats. One "Strong Armenia" MP repeatedly called Chakhoyan "trash." The verbal altercation once again escalated into a scuffle between lawmakers from the ruling party and the opposition. Rubinyan called for an unscheduled ten-minute recess for the second time.

The session focused on a draft proposal regarding the composition of an investigative commission tasked with examining the crisis surrounding the Armenian Apostolic Church. The opposition considers this initiative unconstitutional.
