The International Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has expressed strong disapproval of the prison terms requested by the prosecutor for nine activists and journalists from Toplum TV, which range from 13 to 16 years. Gulnoza Said, CPJ program coordinator, emphasized that such harsh punishments demonstrate the Azerbaijani authorities' desire to respond to courageous reporting and sow a climate of fear.
Two CBI residents fined for «discrediting» the army
The Chegem District Court of Kabardino-Balkaria fined Hasansh Urusov 30 thousand rubles. He was punished for his post on Instagram with the text: "As long as these poor fighters fulfill their military duties and give their lives, the government is fulfilling its duty to reduce the population...". The police and the court considered that the recording would discredit the Russian army.
Another CBI resident from the Zola region, Islam Mambetov, was similarly punished. According to the Court, he published "a publication designed to attract the attention of an indeterminate circle of persons and aimed at discrediting the use of the armed forces of the Russian Federation".
