Сегодня в разных странах мира проходят акции памяти Анны Политковской, посвящённые 20-летию со дня убийства журналистки, много лет освещавшей войну в Чечне и нарушения прав человека.
In a draft resolution, the European Parliament has called on Georgian authorities to immediately withdraw the constitutional lawsuit seeking to ban opposition parties. The document is set for a vote on October 8, following a debate on the country's political situation taking place in Strasbourg on October 7.
The resolution's authors argue that the actions of the ruling "Georgian Dream" party are leading to further restrictions on political pluralism and a deterioration in the state of democracy, media freedom, human rights, and the rule of law.
The document notes that the Georgian parliament petitioned the Constitutional Court in November 2025 to ban the "United National Movement," the "Coalition for Change," and "Strong Georgia – Lelo." The "Federalists" were later added to the lawsuit, followed in September 2026 by "Gakharia for Georgia"—the only party on the list currently represented in parliament.
Furthermore, the European Parliament calls for the release of individuals it considers political prisoners—including Elene Khoshtaria, Mzia Amaglobeli, Mikheil Saakashvili, Giorgi Baramidze, and Nika Melia—and for the dropping of "sabotage" charges against those involved in the relevant cases.
In addition, the authors of the draft demand the repeal of regulations that allow for restrictions on the activities of parties and individuals linked to banned political groups, and call for an end to the obstruction of European political foundations' work.
The European Parliament also reiterates its call for the EU to impose targeted sanctions and visa restrictions on Georgian officials deemed responsible for political persecution and the backsliding of democratic norms. In October 2025, the European Parliament had already condemned the Georgian authorities' intention to declare opposition parties unconstitutional and warned of the consequences for the country's European integration process.
