On December 15, 2011, Khadzhimurad Kamalov, the founder of the Chernovik newspaper, was murdered in Makhachkala. Fourteen years after the tragedy, the Military Collegium of the Supreme Court of Russia upheld the sentences of those found guilty of the murder.
The ratio of the median (average) income of the population of Ingushetia to the cost of a fixed set of goods and services is only 1.13, and a quarter of the population lives below the poverty line. The republic occupies the last, 85th place among the regions of the country in this indicator, according to RIA Novosti data.
In the penultimate line of the rating is Karachay-Cherkessia (1.21), where 17.2% of people live below the poverty line. Stavropol Krai occupies 81st place (1.41), Chechnya - 74th (1.53), North Ossetia - 71st (1.62), Kabardino-Balkaria - 65th (1.67), Dagestan - 58th (1.74).
Moscow, Magadan Oblast, Chukotka, Nenets Autonomous Okrug, and Yamal are leading the ranking, where in 2024 a resident of the region with median income could buy three or more fixed sets of goods and services per month. On average in Russia, median incomes of residents exceed the cost of a fixed set of goods by 2.1 times.
