Life-sentenced Arashukov complained about being in handcuffs for a long time

The defense of the former senator from Karachay-Cherkessia, Rauf Arashukov, complained to the Prosecutor General's Office about the violation of the rights of a life-sentenced prisoner when reading the protocol of the court session. According to the politician's lawyer, Arashukov was recently taken to the Moscow City Court for unknown reasons to get acquainted with the protocol. At the same time, during the acquaintance, the client was all the time in handcuffs, put on both hands and fastened to the wall in a guarded convoy room. In such a situation, it was impossible to get acquainted with the document, since the prisoner could not turn over the pages and write out anything.

The convoy officers did not remove the handcuffs when they locked Arashukov in isolated rooms, while eating and taking him to the toilet. As a result, he spends in this state for several hours a day, which is contrary to current legislation. The senator's father, Raul Arashukov, also sentenced to life imprisonment, is subjected to similar actions. According to the lawyer, the prisoners themselves believe that in this way they are forced to refuse further familiarization with the protocol and protection from unlawful conviction.

In December 2022, both Arashukovs were sentenced to life imprisonment. They were found guilty in a criminal case on the creation of a criminal community, murders and theft. The investigation considered that Rauf Arashukov, on the order of his father, organized the murders of Aslan Zhukov, deputy chairman of the Adege-Khese youth movement, and Fral Shebzukhov, adviser to the head of the KChR. In addition, the father and son are involved in the theft of gas in the amount of 4.4 billion rubles.
