Human Rights Activist: Mansur Movlaev's Kidnapped Parents Released

The parents of activist Mansur Movlaev, previously kidnapped in Chechnya, have been released and returned home. This was reported by human rights activist Maxim Rudnev.

"The parents have finally been released and returned home after their abduction! It's possible that the publicity and attention they received helped," he wrote.

Rudnev also provided details about Movlaev himself, obtained from his lawyers. According to him, Mansur was placed in solitary confinement in the Almaty pretrial detention center in Kazakhstan until July 1, allegedly because he was found in possession of a "prohibited item."

The human rights activist noted that Movlaev is in good health, and pretrial detention center staff are not violating his rights.

On June 7, it was reported that Khava and Movsar, Mansur's parents, had been kidnapped in Chechnya. On June 3, it was reported that his brother, Zelimkhan, had been kidnapped and subjected to violence.

As a reminder, Mansur Movlaev was detained in Chechnya in 2022 and unlawfully imprisoned, from which he managed to escape. In January 2023, he moved to Kyrgyzstan. In August of that year, while wanted in Russia on charges of financing extremism, Movlaev was arrested in Kyrgyzstan.

In May 2025, he was detained in Kazakhstan for extradition. On January 30, 2026, it was announced that the Prosecutor General's Office of Kazakhstan had approved his extradition to Russian law enforcement agencies, but Movlaev's defense team challenged this decision. In February, the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan temporarily suspended the extradition pending the review of his asylum application. On June 14, he complained of violations of his rights in an Almaty pretrial detention center. According to Movlaev, one of the guards insulted him on ethnic grounds, threatened him, and provoked him.
