The President of Georgia called for strengthening control over Russian citizens

Russians entering Georgia are not controlled in any way, and there may be secret service agents among them. This was stated by the country's President Salome Zurabishvili.

“We should not forget that many Russians have entered this country, who are not controlled in any way... I am not saying that all the Russians who are here are enemies of the country, or agents, or anyone else, but it’s like something must be controlled. This creates a need for us to be very careful,” said the President of Georgia.

Citizens of the Russian Federation began to arrive in large numbers in Georgia since 2022, when the “SVO” began in Ukraine. The opposition and the country's president have repeatedly demanded stricter rules for the stay of Russians. In 2022, 1,459,541 cases of crossing the Georgian-Russian border were recorded, in 2023 – 1,856,236.
