A Muslim political prisoner sentenced to 14 years had his sentence reduced by three months.

The Military Court of Appeal commuted the sentence of Muslim political prisoner Bakhrom Khamroev by three months. Instead of 14 years in prison, he was given 13 years and 9 months in prison, the Memorial Human Rights Center reported.

A native of Uzbekistan, Bakhrom Khamroev has been in custody since February 2022. In May 2023, a Russian human rights activist and head of the Yordam Foundation for Legal and Social Support of Migrants was found guilty of charges of public calls for terrorism on the Internet and participation in the activities of a terrorist organization.

According to investigators, the human rights activist posted on his personal page materials related to the activities of the Islamic party Hizb ut-Tahrir, which is banned in Russia. The man reported that he had never been a member of the organization, but only helped Muslims accused of involvement in it. Khamroev did not admit his guilt.
