In a draft resolution, the European Parliament has called on Georgian authorities to immediately withdraw the constitutional lawsuit seeking to ban opposition parties. The document is set for a vote on October 8, following a debate on the country's political situation taking place in Strasbourg on October 7.
An 11-year-old girl who was severely injured in a drone strike on a beach in Arkhipo-Osipovka near Gelendzhik has been brought out of a medically induced coma. The girl regained consciousness before doctors began transporting her from Krasnodar to Moscow.
The girl, from Armavir, suffered multiple shrapnel wounds in the August 3 attack. After receiving first aid in Gelendzhik, she was taken to the Krasnodar Regional Children’s Hospital.
During surgery, doctors removed a fragment of shrapnel from her lung. She also required a blood transfusion because of severe blood loss. Her condition had previously been described as critical: she was on a ventilator and had been placed in a medically induced coma.
On the afternoon of August 7, it was reported that the girl had been brought out of the coma and regained consciousness. Despite the improvement, her condition remains serious. A specialized disaster medicine team arrived from Moscow to transport her to the capital. She is being taken by ambulance under continuous medical supervision.
“Right now, our girl is already on her way. She is accompanied by the best specialists, who will monitor her condition throughout the journey. This is a huge source of hope for our family. They are already waiting for her in Moscow and preparing to receive her,” a statement from a support group set up by the girl’s relatives said.
This is the first significant improvement reported in the condition of one of the most seriously injured victims of the attack. Four children with blast-related injuries of varying severity were initially taken to the Krasnodar Regional Children’s Hospital. One child has since been discharged, while three remained under medical observation, including two in intensive care.
According to the latest confirmed figures, seven people were killed when a drone fell on the beach in Arkhipo-Osipovka, four of them children. Another 58 people were injured, 21 of whom were hospitalized while the rest received outpatient treatment.
Earlier reports said that 14 adult victims aged between 19 and 63 were being treated at the Krasnodar Regional Clinical Hospital. Four were in serious condition and 10 were in moderate condition. Doctors diagnosed the patients with blast and shrapnel injuries, combined trauma and burns, with several requiring repeat surgery.
The attack took place on the morning of August 3 in Arkhipo-Osipovka, a resort village on the Black Sea coast that is part of the Gelendzhik municipality. Russian authorities said the settlement had been targeted by Ukrainian drones. Videos showing the final seconds of one drone’s flight over the beach have emerged online. Sounds resembling gunfire can be heard before the drone suddenly descends and explodes.
The available footage does not allow an independent determination of whether the drone was hit by Russian air-defense or electronic-warfare systems, or whether the beach itself was its original target. Ukrainian authorities have not commented on the incident. There is no independent evidence that the civilian beach was deliberately selected as the target.
People staying in Arkhipo-Osipovka said they had not received timely warnings about the drone threat. According to residents and tourists, no sirens sounded and no emergency alerts were sent to mobile phones. In comments on the page of Krasnodar region Governor Veniamin Kondratyev, which were reported by Kavkaz.Realii, residents and tourists also complained about the lack of shelters, saying that during the attack people had to hide under beach loungers.
It also remains unclear whether a general drone-alert regime had been introduced in the area. The Gelendzhik airport temporarily suspended operations on the morning of August 3 because of the threat of a drone attack, while the regional operational headquarters later reported only that the threat had been lifted.
Following the tragedy, Krasnodar region authorities announced tighter security measures at resort areas. Governor Veniamin Kondratyev ordered the creation of mobile fire teams to protect beaches from drone attacks.
Compensation payments to victims and relatives of those killed are also continuing in Gelendzhik. Families of those killed are entitled to 1.567 million rubles each, while people who suffered serious or moderately serious injuries will receive 627,000 rubles. Those with minor injuries are eligible for 313,500 rubles. The first payments have already been made.
