Russia resumes flights to Abkhazia
For the first time in 30 years, Russian airlines have started selling tickets for flights to Sukhum, the capital of the self-proclaimed Republic of Abkhazia. The first flight from Moscow is scheduled for May 3.
Flights to Sukhum from Nizhny Novgorod will begin on May 6. In February 2024, the first test flight to Sukhum airport in the last thirty years took place.
In February, Abkhazia, Georgia and Armenia entered the top 10 foreign destinations popular among Russians. In 2024, Russians traveled abroad 29.2 million times. The most common destination was Turkey - 6.3 million trips. Abkhazia was in second place with 5.9 million.
