Magomed-Amin Gatagazhev, a native of Ingushetia, was released after eight months in a Croatian immigration prison. Russian authorities had requested his extradition. The refugee was accepted by the neighboring republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Against the backdrop of a 51-day hunger strike in the deportation center of Switzerland, the state of health of a native of Chechnya, Ali Bataev, became critical. “He was brought in in a wheelchair. But nevertheless, he does not want to stop the hunger strike,” Zainal Gashayeva, a representative of the European House of Peace, said after visiting Batayev.
Earlier, rallies were held in Switzerland and other countries demanding the release and hospitalization of a Chechen refugee.
Recall that in 2022, Ali Bataev left Ukraine for Switzerland. In September 2022, he was placed in a deportation center, and now they can extradite him to Russia. Bataev went on a hunger strike in protest. If deported to Russia, he faces torture and death for criticizing the Chechen authorities.
