Yulia Melnichenko, a resident of Mozdok, North Ossetia, was detained in Moscow near the Prosecutor General's Office building after holding a solo picket against the persecution of her family. This is the second such incident: in October 2024, she was detained in Vladikavkaz for a similar protest.
Opposition parties in Georgia have appealed to the West to impose sanctions against the leadership of the government and the ruling Georgian Dream party, which are responsible for the adoption of the law on foreign agents. The authors of the appeal state that sanctions should be applied to Bidzina Ivanishvili, Irakli Kobakhidze, Irakli Garibashvili, Kakha Kaladze, Mamuka Mdinaradze, Anri Okhanashvili, Zviad Kharazishvili (Khareba), Shalva Papuashvili, all members of parliament from the Georgian Dream party and their associates.
The appeal also emphasizes that the “repressive nature of the regime” in Georgia became more obvious after the adoption of the law on foreign agents. Politicians give examples of the beating of the leader of the Anti-Occupation Movement Davit Katsarav, the leader of the UNM Levan Khabeishvili, a member of this party Dimitri Chikovani, as well as leaders of other opposition movements.
