During the annual "Year in Review" press conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin, responding to a question about support for young families, noted the tradition of early marriages in the North Caucasus. He said he believed this was "right" and suggested "following their example," citing Ramzan Kadyrov's large family.
Three Chechen refugees released from migrant camp in Croatia
The Croatian authorities granted political asylum to a Chechen refugee who left Russia because of his unwillingness to participate in the war against Ukraine. Two more migrants were released from the deportation camp.
Earlier, Chechen refugees complained about discrimination on ethnic and religious grounds in Croatia. They were detained on suspicion of involvement in religious extremism, despite the lack of evidence. As a sign of protest, they went on a hunger strike, according to the "Assembly of the Chechens of Europe."
Now several more natives of Chechnya remain in the camp. They were detained for illegally crossing the border.
