Police in Russia's North Ossetia have launched an inquiry following a campaign of online harassment targeting women through the Telegram channel Kavkazskaya Obshchina ("Caucasian Community"). The channel's administrators published women's personal information, insulted them and issued threats of violence over behaviour they claimed violated Caucasian traditions.
In the Karachay-Cherkess Republic, security forces liquidated a serviceman
The FSB reported the liquidation of a Russian serviceman in Karachay-Cherkessia. According to the intelligence services, he was associated with ISIS (a banned terrorist organization) and was preparing terrorist attacks.
While offering resistance, 25-year-old Ilya Baklanov, a soldier of military unit No. 09332 of the 49th Combined Arms Army of the Southern Military District, was killed near Cherkessk. During an attempt to detain him, a shootout began, as a result of which he received injuries from which he died on the spot.
The serviceman allegedly planned terrorist attacks against law enforcement officers. At the scene of the shootout, security forces found a Kalashnikov assault rifle and an improvised explosive device.
