A temporary plaque has been installed in Moscow to replace the memorial plaque to Anna Politkovskaya, which was destroyed by vandals
The Moscow branch of the Civil Initiative party announced the installation of a temporary memorial plaque on the Moscow building where journalist Anna Politkovskaya lived and was murdered. The party called on the authorities to hold those who destroyed the previous memorial accountable.
On January 18, unknown vandals destroyed the plaque. Novaya Gazeta Evropa and Anna Politkovskaya's family intend to seek criminal prosecution for the vandalism.
Anna Politkovskaya, a Novaya Gazeta columnist, was murdered in the elevator of her building on October 7, 2006. She gained notoriety for her investigative reporting on human rights violations in the North Caucasus, particularly the Second Russo-Chechen War.
