During the annual "Year in Review" press conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin, responding to a question about support for young families, noted the tradition of early marriages in the North Caucasus. He said he believed this was "right" and suggested "following their example," citing Ramzan Kadyrov's large family.
The Supreme Court of Georgia left Mikheil Saakashvili's comrade-in-arms in prison
Nika Gvaramia, director general of the opposition TV channel Mtavari Arkhi, was unable to get the sentence overturned. In May 2022, the Tbilisi City Court sentenced an associate of the ex-president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili to 3.5 years in prison.
Nika Gvaramia was accused of abuse of power, large-scale embezzlement of property rights of Rustavi 2 TV company, commercial bribery, production and use of forged official documents. The Court of Appeal on November 2 of the same year upheld this decision, so the lawyers filed a complaint with the Supreme Court.
The opposition considers Gvaramia a political prisoner. The ruling Georgian Dream party does not agree with this.
