Armenian authorities announced the replacement of Russia as a weapons supplier

In 2020, 96% of Armenia’s military-technical cooperation was with the Russian Federation. Since 2021, Armenia has signed many billion-dollar agreements with various countries. Russia's share in the total volume decreased to 10%. This was stated by the country's Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan.

According to Grigoryan, the Russian Federation’s refusal to supply Armenia with the weapons it paid for served as an incentive for diversification and the search for new partners.

Previously, they tried to force Armenia to join the Union State. This was stated by the Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic Alen Simonyan. “In 2021, the Armenian people defeated a big geopolitical plan, the task of which was to bring us to this Union State,” the speaker asserted.

The Union State is a supranational formation of the Russian Federation and Belarus with a single political, economic and military space.

Earlier, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan noted that his country has no choice but to move towards Europe. He also repeatedly criticized the military-political bloc CSTO, which is under Russian influence, and announced the freezing of Armenia’s participation in it.
