The number of people injured in a large-scale Ukrainian drone attack on the southern Russian city of Volgograd has risen to nine after rescuers recovered the body of a woman from the rubble of a residential building struck overnight on July 31.
The Baku Court of Appeal considered the defense's complaint about the refusal to transfer opposition figure Gubad Ibadoglu to house arrest due to health reasons. The complaint was rejected at the request of the investigation.
The health condition of the opposition politician, scientist-economist, chairman of the Movement for Democracy and Prosperity of Azerbaijan party, Gubad Ibadoglu, who is in a pre-trial detention center, remains serious. His health has deteriorated sharply: problems with the thyroid gland, cardiovascular, and musculoskeletal systems have appeared, and the level of glucose in the blood remains high. The reason why sugar has not decreased is stress and the lack of the right to walk at least two hours a day, noted Ibadoglu’s brother Galib Togrul. At the same time, the Ministry of Justice and the Penitentiary Service of Azerbaijan do not allow the prisoner to be transferred to a medical institution.
On July 24, 2023, Gubad Ibadoglu was arrested on charges of selling counterfeit money, as well as under the article of distributing extremist materials. The accused rejects the investigators' arguments.
The arrest caused a wide resonance in the world. Human rights activists believe that the scientist is being persecuted for political reasons. Politicians from the United States and European countries came out in support of it.
