"Green Patrol": Kabardino-Balkaria is Russia's most environmentally clean region

Kabardino-Balkaria took first place in the environmental ranking of Russian regions for the spring-summer season of 2026. The higher a region ranks on the list, the more favorable its environmental conditions and conservation efforts are considered to be by "Green Patrol." The study covers the period from March 1 to August 31.

The Altai Republic took second place, and Moscow took third. The results were announced by the administration of the Head of Kabardino-Balkaria.

Among the North Caucasus regions, the Chechen Republic also made the top ten, securing 10th place. Karachay-Cherkessia ranked 15th, North Ossetia 32nd, Ingushetia 34th, Dagestan 41st, and Stavropol Krai 55th.

When compiling the ranking, "Green Patrol" evaluates several aspects of the environmental situation: the state of the natural environment and conservation efforts, the impact of industry on the environment, living conditions regarding the environment, and public participation in conservation activities. Each region's final position is determined based on these indicators.

The "Green Patrol" ranking has existed since 2007, with results published seasonally since 2008.
