Police in Russia's North Ossetia have launched an inquiry following a campaign of online harassment targeting women through the Telegram channel Kavkazskaya Obshchina ("Caucasian Community"). The channel's administrators published women's personal information, insulted them and issued threats of violence over behaviour they claimed violated Caucasian traditions.
KBR resident convicted of “discrediting the army”
KBR resident Khusen Gukov received a suspended sentence of one and a half years. He was found guilty in a criminal case for discrediting the Russian army (Part 1 of Article 280.3 of the Criminal Code).
At first, Gukov was brought under administrative charges of discrediting. Subsequently, in August 2023, police officers came to search the man. He was facing a real sentence, but the Baksansky District Court gave him a suspended sentence.
“I fell under the roller of the machine of repression. Got off with a slight fright. I have decided not to appeal this court decision,” commented Khusen Gukov.
