In Dagestan, an active campaign is still underway to register citizens with the police as extremists. In this regard, they have difficulties with employment and movement and other problems. This was reported by the Center for the Protection of Human Rights "Memorial".

Most often, registration and excessive control over citizens are associated with visiting mosques that are not related to the official clergy, wearing a beard or hijab. In 2023, those who visited the Tangim mosque in Makhachkala were most often registered. For this reason, the former FSB officer Ramazan Nazhduev even came to the attention of the police. In addition, residents of Makhachkala and Kaspiysk were put under control due to the fact that they wear a niqab.
