During the annual "Year in Review" press conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin, responding to a question about support for young families, noted the tradition of early marriages in the North Caucasus. He said he believed this was "right" and suggested "following their example," citing Ramzan Kadyrov's large family.
Yesterday, Zarema Musayeva was supposed to be released after being imprisoned on charges of fraud and violence against a police officer. She spent more than a year and a half in custody, and another year and a half after the verdict was passed – in a penal colony. Now the woman is accused of disrupting the activities of the penal colony. She once again rejected all charges and said that she did not attack the FSIN officer or scratch his neck.
Musaeva is under arrest again, she faces a new term – up to five years in prison.
“We believe that Zarema became a hostage because her sons criticize the Chechen authorities. After each public statement by her family against the authorities of the republic, the situation worsened. This is evidenced by the new criminal case,” the “Team Against Torture” said.
Zarema Musayeva is the wife of former federal judge Saidi Yangulbaev and the mother of Chechen activists Ibragim, Baysangur, and Abubakar Yangulbaev. In early March 2024, the Pyatigorsk Cassation Court reduced her sentence, reducing her prison term from 5 years to 4 years and 9 months. In July 2023, she was convicted in Grozny on charges of fraud and violence against a government official. Recall that on January 20, 2022, police officers from Chechnya arrived in Nizhny Novgorod and forcibly took Musayeva to her home region. After being taken to Grozny, the woman was accused of using force against a police officer. She allegedly scratched his face. Human rights activists claim that the woman was kidnapped as a hostage and convicted for her sons' opposition activities.
