The appeal did not help the relatives of the Dagestanis who were shot in Chechnya

The appeal to the court of appeal turned out to be fruitless for the relatives of eight residents of Dagestan, who were killed in 2016 by security forces in Chechnya. Earlier, the ECtHR ordered the authorities of the Russian Federation to pay the plaintiffs 60,000 euros.

According to the Russian authorities, residents of the Dagestan Khasavyurt Gashim Uzdanov, Klych Klychev, Gosen Gosenov, Kamil and two Shamil Dzhamalutdinova, Islam Magomedov and Pakhrutdin Makhaev attacked policemen on September 28, 2016 in the Gudermes district of Chechnya. They allegedly opened fire from two vehicles and threw a grenade. The security forces blew up the transport with return fire, and those sitting in it died.

Relatives of those killed initially did not believe in this version of events. In their opinion, the sons and husbands were kidnapped, and then, having staged an attack with their participation, they were killed. Moreover, criminal cases were opened against already dead people. The ECtHR also concluded that the exact cause of death of eight residents of Dagestan remains unknown.
