Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev missed the informal CIS summit in St. Petersburg due to a busy work schedule. Aliyev's administration also noted that his absence from the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council on December 21 was due to Azerbaijan not being a member of the organization.
There will be no Russian border guards at Yerevan Zvartnots Airport until August 1. Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan stated this.
“An attempt is being made to present this process as a violation of the interstate agreement. This was an interdepartmental document with the aim of providing assistance to the Armenian border guards in this area. There is no such need anymore,” Simonyan noted. Earlier, Armenia sent an official letter to Russia regarding the presence of Russian citizens at the capital’s airport.
Let us also recall that the Armenian authorities again emphasized their non-participation in any events and statements of the CSTO, a military-political bloc led by Moscow. “Armenia did not join the CSTO statement condemning the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall. We have frozen membership in the CSTO and will not make statements within the framework of this organization,” parliamentary press secretary Nelly Gulyan commented on the situation.
On February 23, in an interview with France24, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced the freezing of the country’s participation in the CSTO “due to non-compliance with the collective security treaty.”
