Azerbaijan reproaches Armenia for lack of desire for peace

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said the day before that territorial claims against Baku enshrined in the country's Constitution can be ignored. This shows that Pashinyan is not interested in lasting peace and is only trying to maintain this situation as a backup option for resuming aggression against Azerbaijan in the future, the country's Foreign Ministry noted.

"All this once again proves that changing the Constitution of Armenia is a fundamental condition for peace, and Azerbaijan has the legal right to demand this," the ministry said.

Earlier, Baku noted that the main expectations from Yerevan are related to the exclusion of territorial claims against Azerbaijan from the Constitution of Armenia. They also consider it important to abolish the Minsk Group, which is no longer needed due to the end of the conflict.

The day before, Pashinyan said that there are circles in Azerbaijan that want to close the page of the conflict on their territory and export the conflict to the territory of Armenia. At the same time, he recalled Yerevan's readiness to sign a peace agreement and a statement on the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group.

On May 9, Pashinyan stated that there would be no war between Armenia and Azerbaijan. According to him, the draft agreement on peace and the establishment of interstate relations between the countries has been agreed upon and is awaiting signing.

Ruben Vardanyan Drops Appeal Against 20-Year Sentence in Azerbaijan

Billionaire and former Nagorno-Karabakh state minister Ruben Vardanyan, sentenced in Baku to 20 years in prison, rejected the legal force of the ruling and dropped his appeal. His family explained that this decision stemmed from the fact that, in their view, the trial was a "staged performance" rather than a proper trial: the hearings were held behind closed doors, without access to independent observers, and the prosecution's motions were ignored. The full text of the verdict was also not released.

Chechnya Leads in Lowest Alcohol Sales
25 February 2026

In 2025, residents of the North Caucasus regions consumed the least amount of hard liquor in Russia. The lowest official retail sales figures were recorded in Chechnya (0.01 liters per capita). Other republics of the North Caucasus Federal District also demonstrated modest figures: Ingushetia - 0.7 liters, Dagestan - 2.2 liters, Kabardino-Balkaria - 2.6 liters, North Ossetia - 3 liters, and Karachay-Cherkessia - 3.4 liters. Experts attribute this decline to the prevalence of cultural and religious restrictions, as well as a preference for low-alcohol beverages.
