The Azerbaijani economist has been on hunger strike for almost two months

A representative of the ombudsman of Azerbaijan visited the doctoral student of Istanbul University, economist Fazil Gasymov, in the pre-trial detention center. He has been on hunger strike for 55 days. The management of the medical facility was given recommendations regarding the monitoring of the prisoner's condition.

Lawyer Rovshana Ragymova said that the issue of Hasymov's outing was resolved. Swimming was prohibited for more than two weeks. This problem is also solved. At the same time, the prisoner made it clear that he was determined to continue the hunger strike until the end.

Fazil Gasimov was detained on August 7, 2023. He was charged under Article 204.3.1 of the Criminal Code (production, purchase or sale of counterfeit money as part of an organized group). The investigation believes that he gave the fake money to the opposition politician and scientist-economist Gubad Ibadoglu, who is currently in custody.

Recently, in his address to the chief prosecutor, the ombudsman, the local and international community, Gasimov stated that he gave his confessional testimony under torture. He emphasized that he did not give Ibadoglu any money.
