Refugee and critic of Chechen authorities face deportation from Switzerland to Russia

Ali Batayev, an opponent of the Chechen leadership, has been on hunger strike in a deportation prison in Switzerland for more than a month. He protests against the intention of the country's authorities to deport him to Russia, where he is threatened with torture and death.

Ali Bataev had a residence permit in Ukraine, lived there for a long time and was married to a citizen of the country. After the war, he left for Europe as a refugee and ended up in Switzerland. He arrived there in September 2022 and has since been imprisoned as an illegal refugee.

Due to a long hunger strike, Bataev began to have health problems. As the representative of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria in Switzerland, Lachin Mamishov, noted, if Bataev is extradited to Russia, death awaits, since he is a critic of the head of Chechnya and his entourage.
