The number of political prisoners in Azerbaijan has reached 357
In two months, the number of political prisoners in Azerbaijan has increased by 26 people and reached 357. The list was compiled by the director of the Institute for Peace and Democracy Leyla Yunus and the head of the Center for Monitoring Political Prisoners Elshan Hasanov.
 
The new political prisoners include journalists Farid Ismailov, Shamshad Aga, Shahnaz Beylergizi. The general list is divided into 12 groups: journalists and bloggers - 27 people, human rights activists - four, members of opposition parties and civil society - 32, activists of national minorities - four, anti-war activists - two, in the case of the village of Soyudlu - two, political emigrants deported from Germany - five, arrested in the Imishli case - 13, believers - 235, convicted in the Terter case - eight, convicted in the Ganja case - 13, life-sentenced - 12 people.
 
According to the head of the Human Rights Committee of the Parliament of Azerbaijan Zahid Oruj, these persons were brought to criminal responsibility in accordance with the law and were convicted or are under investigation.
 
“In most cases, these are the forces that participated in international projects subject to registration in accordance with the legislation of Azerbaijan and should have acted legitimately. Activities outside this are already facts of smuggling, tax evasion,” Oruj noted.
