Two Ingush natives were sentenced to lengthy prison terms for complicity in the murder of a Russian general

The Second Western District Military Court sentenced Ingush natives Ramazan Padiyev and Batukhan Tochiyev to 18 and 22 years in a maximum-security penal colony. According to Kommersant, they were found guilty of complicity in the terrorist attack that resulted in the deaths of Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, the head of Russia's Radiation, Chemical, and Biological Defense (RCBD) forces, and his adjutant, Ilya Polikarpov.

Akhmadzhon Kurbonov, convicted of perpetrating the attack, received a life sentence, while his accomplice, Robert Safaryan, received a 25-year prison sentence.

According to investigators, General Kirillov was the target of a "conspiracy by unidentified SBU officers" seeking to destabilize the situation in Russia. Kurbonov was promised a $100,000 reward and a European residence permit for the terrorist attack, part of which was transferred to him in Baku.

According to the indictment, Tochiyev and Padiyev provided Kurbonov with housing in Moscow. Posing as a Rosgvardia officer, Tochiyev allegedly convinced the owners that the accommodations were needed for his "comrade-in-arms," who was being pursued by Ukrainian intelligence agencies. He allegedly received 12,000 rubles for his services, and Padiyev received 8,000.

In their final statements, Tochiyev and Padiyev protested their innocence and insisted that they were merely renting out the property, unaware of Kurbonov's plans.

On December 17, 2024, Kirillov was killed by the detonation of an explosive device as he was leaving the entrance of his building on Ryazansky Prospekt in Moscow. His assistant, Major Ilya Polikarpov, who had come to pick up the general to take him to work, died at the scene along with him.
