Former Senator Arashukov Reports Torture in Prison and Requests Transfer

Former Federation Council member from Karachay-Cherkessia Rauf Arashukov has demanded to be transferred to a prison in Mordovia. He is being held in the Black Dolphin correctional facility in the Orenburg Region, where, according to him, he is being tortured and provoked.

There are two prisons for life-sentenced prisoners in Mordovia. Arashukov's father, Raul Arashukov, is serving his sentence in one of them.

A criminal case was recently opened against Rauf Arashukov. He is accused of bribing a prison employee through a lawyer. For 3 million rubles, he wanted to receive unlimited visits and the right to choose his cellmates. An FSIN employee told the security forces about the offer and recorded all subsequent meetings on camera.

In December 2022, former adviser to the CEO of Gazprom Mezhregiongaz LLC Raul Arashukov and his son, former senator from the Karachay-Cherkess Republic Rauf Arashukov, were sentenced to life imprisonment. They were found guilty in a criminal case on the creation of a criminal community, murders and thefts. The investigation found that Rauf Arashukov, on the orders of his father, organized the murders of the deputy chairman of the Adege-Khese youth movement Aslan Zhukov and adviser to the head of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic Fral Shebzukhov. In addition, the father and son were involved in the theft of gas worth 4.4 billion rubles.
