The ECHR ordered the Russian authorities to pay compensation to Abdulmumin Gadzhiev
The European Court of Human Rights has granted the claim of the defense of Dagestani journalist and political prisoner Abdulmumin Gadzhiev. The ECHR ruled that the Russian authorities are obliged to pay him compensation in the amount of 6 thousand euros for delaying the period of detention before the trial.

In September 2023, journalist Abdulmumin Gadzhiev was sentenced to 17 years in a maximum security penal colony. The prosecution claimed that he supported ISIS terrorists by transferring 16 thousand rubles. He was found guilty of participating in the activities of a terrorist organization and organizing its financing. The convicted man himself did not admit guilt. In 2024, the Military Court of Appeal "mitigated" Gadzhiev's sentence, reducing the term of imprisonment by 2 months.

The ECHR also ordered the payment of 6 thousand euros to a political prisoner from North Ossetia, activist Vadim Cheldiev. In July 2022, he was sentenced to 10 years, found guilty of organizing mass riots. He was detained in April 2020 after posting on social media against coronavirus restrictions. According to the investigation, Cheldiev called on residents of Vladikavkaz to come to a public gathering and protest against the introduction of the self-isolation regime. Participants in the rally on April 20, 2020, demanded the lifting of COVID restrictions and the resignation of the authorities due to growing unemployment and lack of money.
