The head of the ruling party of Georgia condemned Salome Zurabishvili for active foreign policy

Chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream Irakli Kobakhidze condemned the President of Georgia for the decision to meet with the leaders of European countries.

“The Constitution of Georgia stipulates that the president has the right to carry out foreign policy only with the approval of the government, as well as to participate in international negotiations. Proceeding from this, it is clearer than clear that the President of Georgia very grossly violated the Constitution, on which she took an oath. An appropriate response is needed, we cannot leave it unanswered,” said Irakli Kobakhidze. However, the chairman of the parliament made it clear that there was no question of impeachment.

“I would not attach too much importance to this topic. We already know that Salome Zurabishvili opposes the country's interests related to European integration - it does not matter whether she makes statements against European integration in the building of the Georgian Parliament or during a foreign visit. You remember that in the building of the Parliament of Georgia, she directly opposed our European perspective, in particular, she said that Georgia did not deserve the status of a candidate last year, and, moreover, she said that this year the reforms envisaged in the EU documents are being implemented only formally, therefore, in her opinion, Georgia does not deserve the status of a candidate this year either... As for the reaction, firstly, the theoretical mechanism is impeachment, and, of course, if we turn to the Constitutional Court, it is very easy will determine that the Constitution of Georgia is violated here. Based on a direct textual interpretation, it will be very easy to determine, however, you know that 100 votes are needed for impeachment and, of course, Salome Zurabishvili hopes for a collective National Movement. Without this guarantee, she would not grossly violate the Constitution,” Irakli Kobakhidze said.

It should be reminded that recently Salome Zurabishvili met in Berlin with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. According to the Administration of the President of Georgia, during the meeting the head of state noted that the approach of the European Union to the candidate countries has become more political. Speaking about the Russian-Ukrainian war, she stressed that the population of Georgia is united in supporting Ukraine and expresses solidarity with it.

It is noteworthy that the date of the meeting is very symbolic: it coincides with the 30th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic relations between Georgia and Germany. In this context, Salome Zurabishvili expressed gratitude to Germany for the role it played in the political, economic and cultural support of Georgia.

The message of the Administration of the President of Georgia also states that “during the meeting, the President of Georgia informed Frank-Walter Steinmeier about the current situation in the occupied territories and noted that, in spite of everything, Georgia continues to follow the chosen path!”.
