Georgia called on the international community to condemn the violence during the storming of the presidential palace

The Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a meeting with representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in the country to discuss the results of the 2025 local elections and the events of October 4.

First Deputy Minister Giorgi Zurabashvili noted that 28 international and 27 local observation organizations, as well as approximately 1,000 media representatives, participated in the vote.

"The overall assessment confirmed that the elections were held in a peaceful and transparent environment, the electoral process was professionally organized, and Georgian citizens were able to freely exercise their democratic rights," the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

Commenting on the incidents of October 4, Zurabashvili emphasized that the protest exceeded the law on assemblies and demonstrations, and calls for violence by the organizers led to the intervention of law enforcement agencies. The clashes resulted in injuries to police officers and journalists, and damage to municipal infrastructure.

The minister called on international partners to condemn the violent actions of protesters and assured that the Georgian Foreign Ministry remains open to dialogue and continued cooperation with the diplomatic community.

Billionaire and former Nagorno-Karabakh state minister Ruben Vardanyan, sentenced in Baku to 20 years in prison, rejected the legal force of the ruling and dropped his appeal. His family explained that this decision stemmed from the fact that, in their view, the trial was a "staged performance" rather than a proper trial: the hearings were held behind closed doors, without access to independent observers, and the prosecution's motions were ignored. The full text of the verdict was also not released.
