Georgian Dream Accuses EU of Disinformation and Promoting Deep State Interests

The Georgian Dream party responded to the joint statement of 17 European ministers and EU High Representative Kaja Kallas, calling it an "organized attack on the Georgian people." According to the party, informal Deep State structures rule in the EU and Britain and allegedly interfere in Georgian politics. The Dream called on each signatory "to be more responsible in their statements in the future."

"The organized attack against the Georgian people, which acquired a new meaning on October 26, has only one reason - the Georgian people did not allow the return to power of Deep State agents, the collective "National Movement," which was openly welcomed by the EU Ambassador to Georgia and specific European and former American officials," the Georgian authorities said.

They also emphasized the legitimacy of the parliamentary elections, which European diplomats have questioned.

"Everyone can see that no one doubts the legitimacy of the parliamentary elections. In addition to objective reality, the legitimacy of the elections is confirmed by the ODIHR/OSCE conclusion, as well as statements by OSCE officials, including the statement by the OSCE Secretary General a few days ago that the 2024 elections fully reflected the will of the Georgian people. It is obvious that European officials are not satisfied with the content of the elections, but with their result," the ruling party said in a statement.

In a joint letter, 18 officials expressed concern about the persecution of opposition leaders. In response, the Georgian authorities said that the arrests were legal: the opposition members refused to appear at meetings of the parliamentary commission, for which they received real terms. The ruling party recalled that "the law on the basis of which the politicians were imprisoned was adopted in Georgia three decades ago and is fully consistent with European practice and standards."

Georgian Dream also accused Western NGOs and a number of European officials of supporting the protests in late 2024, which the party regarded as an attempt to violently overthrow the government. USAID, NED, EED and former representatives of Western governments were mentioned, calling the "brutal protest" peaceful.

As for the "recently adopted repressive laws" mentioned by European diplomats, the party recalled that these are laws that "fully comply with legal principles and standards" and are aimed at "preventing the violation of Georgia's sovereignty and the weakening of state institutions through external financing."

The statement says that Western structures are acting in the interests of the so-called Deep State - a network of shadow influence allegedly rooted in the politics of EU countries and Britain. In this context, Brexit is also mentioned, which, according to the party, could be implemented by a "third center of influence."

"Recent events reinforce the suspicion that the "deep state" has separated the UK from the EU for a specific purpose. On the basis of Brexit, a third, separate center has been created to implement the global agenda of the "deep state". It is worth recalling the words of the former British Prime Minister Liz Truss, who emphasized that today Britain is ruled by the "deep state". We hope that Donald Trump will be able to fulfill his promise and defeat the "deep state", which will restore the sovereignty of European countries.

We see that the center of gravity of the "deep state" has shifted from the United States to Europe. If the "deep state" is not defeated, but only rebranded, then, unfortunately, the weakening of Europe will continue, as will the attacks on the Georgian people and Georgian democracy. We wish Donald Trump success in this important matter.

Today, Europe is experiencing a rollback from democracy and the worst crisis. Most European countries act in accordance with the Deep State principle. Uncontrolled migration, pseudo-liberal propaganda, the decline of state and religious institutions are rapidly losing European identity.

The non-recognition of electoral victories of undesirable parties and candidates and the cancellation of elections, political persecution of opponents, total restriction of freedom of the media - this is the norm for modern Europe," the Dream asserts.

Finally, the party emphasizes that "against this background, neither the absurd resolutions of the European Parliament, nor the letters of 18 European officials filled with disinformation, nor their sanctions and other attacks on the Georgian people are surprising."

Billionaire and former Nagorno-Karabakh state minister Ruben Vardanyan, sentenced in Baku to 20 years in prison, rejected the legal force of the ruling and dropped his appeal. His family explained that this decision stemmed from the fact that, in their view, the trial was a "staged performance" rather than a proper trial: the hearings were held behind closed doors, without access to independent observers, and the prosecution's motions were ignored. The full text of the verdict was also not released.
