Activists in Moscow have installed a memorial plaque for the 21st time in honor of Anna Politkovskaya, who was murdered in 2006. Activists intend to continue restoring it until it remains in place forever.
Five natives of Chechnya who had left Russia because of their unwillingness to participate in the war against Ukraine had been denied refugee status and international protection in Croatia.
Citizens of the Russian Federation remain in the center for migrants, from where they can be both released for travel to another country and deported to Moscow.
Previously, in Croatia, refugees from Chechnya had been placed in deportation camps. At the end of 2022, about 20 people who had fled Russia from mobilization were detained at the airport. Upon arrest, their passports were confiscated and placed in a cold room with bars. After that, representatives of the Chechen diaspora held a protest outside the Croatian Embassy in Austria. They opposed the extradition of refugees who had left Russia because of military mobilization.
