The freeze on EU financial support to Georgia may be extended until 2026, the European Commission announced. Member of the European Parliament, Tomasz Zdechovský, emphasized that a complete halt to funding is not planned, but that significant allocations to the country next year are unlikely without clear changes in the country's political situation.
The Court of Appeal in Vlasich (Moscow Region) did not satisfy the complaints and kept Crimean Tatars Seyran Khayredinov and Alim Sufyanov in detention. Russian Muslim Alexander Sisikov with a disability 1st Group vision will be under house arrest.
All three are accused of links with the Islamic political party «Hizb ut-Tahrir», recognized in Russia as terrorist, but operating legally and freely in many countries of the world, including Ukraine. The defendants have been in pre-trial detention and under house arrest since July 2020.
According to human rights activists, the members of «Hizb ut-Tahrir» are not persecuted for preparing a coup d'état and terrorism, but for public actions against political repression in Crimea and for criticizing the Russian authorities.
