Crimean Tatar political prisoner held in solitary confinement for over two months

Crimean Tatar Seyran Saliev has been held in solitary confinement in IK-4 in the Tula Region for over two months. His wife was told that he was recognized as a “malicious violator of the established order.” However, it was not specified what violations were the reasons for his constant placement in solitary confinement.

“At first, he was given 15 days. When the term of detention expired and the day came when he was supposed to be released, he was given 10 days. After that, he was supposed to be taken back to strict conditions of detention, but again they gave him 15 days. When they expired, he was given 15 days again,” said the political prisoner’s wife, Mumine Salieva.

Previously, in addition to being held in solitary confinement, Saliev spent at least four months in strict conditions of detention.

Seyran Saliev is a philologist of the Turkish and Crimean Tatar languages. Before his arrest, he worked as a tour guide and journalist. In 2020, he was sentenced to 16 years on charges of involvement in the activities of the Islamic party Hizb ut-Tahrir. It was recognized as terrorist in the Russian Federation, but the organization operates freely in many countries in Europe and around the world.
