Crimean Tatar political prisoner transferred to strict prison conditions

Crimean Tatar political prisoner Bilyal Adilov, sentenced to 14 years in prison, was transferred to strict conditions of detention (SUS) in a prison in the city of Minusinsk, Krasnoyarsk Territory. The number of long-term visits was reduced to once a year and short-term visits to twice a year, and the limit on parcels was also reduced.

According to lawyer Maria Terekhova, the prison administration explains the decision by the fact that in 2019, Adilov had a disciplinary sanction in the pre-trial detention center - then he was assigned 12 days in a pre-trial detention center. The lawyer plans to appeal the administration's decision.

In May, the appeal court confirmed the sentence of Bilyal Adilov - 14 years in prison. He was found guilty under articles on participation in the activities of a terrorist organization (Part 2 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code) and preparation for a violent change of power (Article 278 of the Criminal Code with the use of Part 1 of Article 30 of the Criminal Code). Under these articles, Crimean Tatars are being tried en masse and sentenced to long terms only on the basis of accusations of participation in the Islamic party Hizb ut-Tahrir. It is banned in the Russian Federation, but operates legally in Ukraine and the West.
