Crimean Tatar Master of Islamic Sciences sentenced to 11 years

The Supreme Court of Russia rejected the cassation appeal of Vadim Bektemirov's defense. In 2022, he was sentenced to 11 years in the Hizb ut-Tahrir case.

In December 2023, a Crimean Tatar was beaten by employees of IK-6 of St. Petersburg. They also took away his Koran and medicine. This was reported by his wife Lemara Bektemirova. The victim was able to call a payphone only after he was released from quarantine.

Previously, Bektemirov was transferred from prison in Yelets (Lipetsk region). The family of the political prisoner did not receive any news about him for more than a month and did not know where he was.

Vadim Bektemirov – Master's degree in Islamic teachings at the Faculty of Arabic Literature and Humanities. Before his arrest, he conducted prayers in support of the families of political prisoners and organized assistance to arrested Crimean Tatars.

Bektemirov was accused of involvement in the activities of the Islamic party Hizb ut-Tahrir, which is banned in Russia. On the territory of Ukraine and most countries of the world, the organization operates without restrictions at the level of national legislation.

At least 320 people have been prosecuted for their involvement in Hizb ut-Tahrir, and at least 271 have been convicted, most of them sentenced to long terms.
