The Russian Foreign Ministry responded to the posters that appeared in Armenia with a portrait of Putin and the inscription "killer"

On the eve of the visit of the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Sergey Lavrov, posters appeared in Yerevan on which Russian President Vladimir Putin is depicted against the background of the word "killer" or together with Russian military equipment with the Z symbol. The press secretary of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova called these provocations "Russophobic".

"The US Embassy did not understand that we need to strengthen Russian-American relations, and not undermine Russian-Armenian relations. We have an extensive agenda with Armenia. And we also know that many of the minorities do not like this. Therefore, we are focusing on a constructive, positive agenda," Zakharova said.

During the briefing, she recalled that the US Embassy in Armenia employs about 2,000 people, “and apparently some of them have not yet run out of money transferred through USAID, so they are spending it on such projects.”

Local media report that the posters are the work of the so-called “Euroblok,” which plans to hold a protest against Lavrov’s visit in front of the RA MFA building on the morning of May 21. These posters are being hung in the capital and distributed on social networks by members of the bloc. In particular, such photos were posted on his Facebook page by the leader of the pro-European party “In the Name of the Republic” Arman Babajanyan.

Billionaire and former Nagorno-Karabakh state minister Ruben Vardanyan, sentenced in Baku to 20 years in prison, rejected the legal force of the ruling and dropped his appeal. His family explained that this decision stemmed from the fact that, in their view, the trial was a "staged performance" rather than a proper trial: the hearings were held behind closed doors, without access to independent observers, and the prosecution's motions were ignored. The full text of the verdict was also not released.

Chechnya Leads in Lowest Alcohol Sales

In 2025, residents of the North Caucasus regions consumed the least amount of hard liquor in Russia. The lowest official retail sales figures were recorded in Chechnya (0.01 liters per capita). Other republics of the North Caucasus Federal District also demonstrated modest figures: Ingushetia - 0.7 liters, Dagestan - 2.2 liters, Kabardino-Balkaria - 2.6 liters, North Ossetia - 3 liters, and Karachay-Cherkessia - 3.4 liters. Experts attribute this decline to the prevalence of cultural and religious restrictions, as well as a preference for low-alcohol beverages.
