Mikhail Saakashvili Appeals to ECHR

A complaint has been filed with the European Court of Human Rights in the case of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili. Shalva Khachapuridze, his lawyer, reported this. Protection requires that policies prevent irreparable harm to health.

In February, the Tbilisi City Court denied the ex-president a stay of punishment or release for health reasons. The Court of Appeal upheld the judgement in March.

It should be recalled that Mikhail Saakashvili has been treated in the civil clinic "Vivamid" since May 2022. His health was affected by a 50-day hunger strike that he announced after his arrest on 1 October 2021. Supporters and lawyers of the politician argue that he cannot eat and needs treatment abroad.

Georgian authorities refuse to release Saakashvili outside the country. At the same time, foreign leaders and human rights organizations repeatedly demanded that the Georgian government release Saakashvili.
