A man from Dagestan sentenced to five years for a photo of Basayev and videos about the Chechen Republic

The Supreme Court of Russia confirmed five years of imprisonment to the native of Dagestan Murad Dadashev. Such a term was given to him for posting on the Internet clips with supporters of the independence of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria and photos of field commander Shamil Basayev. The accused himself claimed that he had not published anything.

According to the investigation, in April 2020, Dadashev, while in Volgograd, published videos on social networks. They contained "signs of justification and propaganda of the activities of Chechen separatist militants, violent and destructive actions aimed at combating the Russian power in the territory of the Chechen Republic". The man was also charged with publishing a photo of Shamil Basayev.

Dadashev himself claimed not only did not advocate terrorism, but could not even use the Internet at the time, as he was in the SIZO. However, a witness for the prosecution said that Dadashev expressed dissatisfaction with the current authority of the Russian Federation. The courts therefore sided with the investigation.
