Up to 10 thousand residents of Dagestan plan to go to the Hajj this year

This year, more than 7,000 applications for the Hajj have been submitted from Dagestan. In total, it is planned to accept about 10,000 applications. More than 70% of pilgrims from the region will be able to take direct flights.

This year, Saudi Arabia increased the number of Hajj pilgrims who can enter the country from Russia. The quota for Russian Muslims will be 25,000 people, which is twice the number in 2022. The Arab authorities also officially lifted the age limit for pilgrims. In 2022, only those between the ages of 18 and 65 who were fully vaccinated or immunized against coronavirus could perform the hajj.

The Anna Politkovskaya Award has this year been given to 11 Russian and five Ukrainian female journalists who are imprisoned in Russia and in the occupied territories of Ukraine.

 

According to the award’s founder, the international organisation RAW in WAR (Reach All Women in WAR), the nominations committee praised the “courage and integrity” of the laureates, who “risk their freedom and even their lives to report on the war and speak out against human rights violations, war crimes and the escalating repression of journalists, human rights defenders and anti-war activists in Russia”.
